Breast Care is Up to You!
Remember, the best protection is early detection
Do monthly breast self-exams - Checking your breasts is called a breast self-exam. You should examine your breasts each month, 7-10 days after your menstrual cycle begins. After menopause or a hysterectomy, examine your breasts on the first day of each month. (This will make it easier to remember) |
Schedule a clinical breast exam with your physician - This is an exam done by your health care provider to make sure that nothing has been missed during your self-examinations. This is a good opportunity for you to ask any questions or report any changes. |
| |
Schedule a mammogram with your physician's order - A mammogram is the most effective way to detect breast lumps too small to be felt or seen. A technologist will take a minimum of four x-rays (two of each breast). Mammography should not be painful, but may be uncomfortable during the compression of the breast for each picture. |
